The world of education today is full of expensive speakers at state, provincial and regional professional development conferences, usually at events where registration fees are several times higher than at scientific conferences anywhere in the world. World Development Report 2018. – Learn to deliver on promises of education – highlights three characteristics of complex education systems, which I believe explain to a large extent the complexity of reform. Many of the short 45-minute volunteer presentations focus on controversial issues related to the curriculum or pedagogy, such as myths about education, explicit teaching, cognitive stress, early reading, mathematical skills and teacher workload.
