Pastoral Support – I head the Social Security Career and

I head the Social Security, Career and Pastoral Support Department at the Rizhit College and University Center in Nantwich, Cheshire, which has more than 4,000 students, including 1,000 residents and more than 600 employees. As a university, we place the welfare and mental health of our students and staff first and have incorporated this spirit into the university structure so that everyone receives the help and support they need. We support employees in a variety of ways: we introduce home hours, offer training in stress and anxiety management, homework strategies, self-service and resilience, pain and loss management, 1:1 welfare, and group counseling and support sessions as needed. By supporting employees emotionally, respecting and listening to their individual experiences, understanding their practical needs, providing clarity and peace of mind, working with them to find solutions to their problems, and showing empathy, we have all found our way through these difficult times together. Individual risk assessments have played an important role in supporting the transition by responding to the individual needs of staff, such as those of at-risk groups, people with childcare problems, people with mental health problems, people with disabilities, grief or computer problems. The goal of the day of distance learning for our staff was to provide them with accessible support, to show them what the campus is and what measures have been taken to ensure the safety and support of individuals, and that the campus is provided by KOVID. The College successfully responded to the OVID-19 challenge and ensured that students and staff continued to receive highly professional advice, guidance and support. We have an online mental health and wellness resource called BeWell, which provides staff and students with 24-hour access to information, advice and guidance. Our support staff is also available to assist our research colleagues and ensure that Reaseheath’s experience remains excellent despite limitations. Competitions, word search, virtual social events, employee pot history and the appointment of our Reaseheath heroes have all played an important role in maintaining a strong sense of teamwork and giving us the feeling that we are valued and listened to. On that day, I gave presentations and talked about my own experiences and feelings when I returned to campus after a few months at home, which was well received and helped to reduce the staff’s anxiety. We created an online information flyer that guides the staff step by step through all the measures implemented, with the FAQ section constantly updated. Nicola McCleve is the head of Social Security, Career and Pastoral Support at Reaseheath College in Cheshire. We always welcome feedback from staff and students, conduct surveys, and respond to any questions or concerns that arise. Because she isolates herself, she reflects on her role and how her employees have worked together and emotionally supported her during difficult times.
