We are incredibly proud that the strict security measures taken at Academy Zvezda have allowed our schools to maximize the number of students who stay in school after a confirmed case of COVID 19 Hamid Patel, General Manager of Academy Zvezda, shares the precautions that “their” schools have taken to ensure that in the event of an outbreak, they do not send an entire class home, while ensuring the safety of all students and staff. Pupils need time to relax, but social interactions must be carefully managed, otherwise efforts to distance themselves from the classroom will be in vain. We had to think about these scenarios, and now we have started the process; students leave their base when the corridors are empty and one of the staff members is watching them. But between the security measures we took and our tracking and tracing system, none of these measures resulted in a whole group of people being sent home, and in one case only one employee had to be isolated. Older high school students exploring different options may be in different classes. We encourage them to pay special attention to remoteness, sanitation and hygiene of airways. In elementary school and at the 3rd level students stay in the designated classroom in uniform as often as possible. Analyzing the place cards and discussing with a symptomatic person the social interactions during breaks, lunches and on the way to school will help to quickly identify close contacts in bubbles. By including in their magazines the people with whom they spent time at school, students can make it easier to find contacts. By noting that students are in their designated places and that the planned movement runs smoothly and by providing feedback from their observations, leaders develop a sense of confirmation that can be very helpful in relieving stress. Students are encouraged to interact with a small group of friends from whom they should keep their distance. Carefully designed seating plans make it easy to identify any student who has sat within one and a half feet of the confirmed case. We found that carefully recording students’ movements along corridors and common areas helps minimize the risk of cross-contamination. But to be effective, air bubbles must be managed in a very structured way, otherwise they risk isolating most of the students and further disrupting fragile reconstruction plans. For students who are tactile by nature, it is easy to forget the advice “hand, face, space”.
